A 55-year-old-year-old lecturer, Dr. Ayinde Samuel Olukayode was discharged and acquitted over an alleged rape case relating to a minor.
Justice Adekunle Adeleye of a High court in Ado Ekiti acquits the lecturer based on concrete pieces of evidence tendered.
Olukayode, who lectures at the Ekiti state university (EKSU), had been standing trial on the alleged offense of rape contrary to the provision of section 31 (c); of the child’s rights Law, Cap C7, the law of Ekiti state,2012.
According to the judge in his judgment, Adeleye held that the prosecution witnesses had created doubt in the mind of the court with discrepancies in the evidence, NAN report. He further said the prosecution had failed to give the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
It was recalled, the lecturer was arraigned on March 7, 2022, on the charge of raping a minor, a 12 years old girl whose name is undisclosed.
However the defendant, Olukayode had pleaded not guilty to the allegation while Eunice Olabisi, the wife also testified that her husband could not have sex with her, due to erectile dysfunction, which made her conclude her husband can never commit such an offense.
The victim’s father, Olatunji Ojo as well testified an oath as a defence witness while he told the court Olukayode the defendant did not rape his child calling him the” father to all.”
