Millions of naira goods lost as Maiduguri market catches fire.

A fire outbreak has razed several shops with goods worth millions of naira at the central Maiduguri Monday market.

Sources had it that the incident occurred around 3 am. As records have it, no casualty was recorded as fire fighter battled to put off the fire.

The cause of the inferno is unknown, as hundreds of shops were reported to have been razed down during the fire outbreak.

Hundreds of the affected traders were seen struggling to quench the fire while some are helpless.

According to an eyewitness, some of the affected structures consumed by the fire included boutiques, poultry,  essential commodities shops, and many others.

Borno state Governor, Professor Babaganda Umara Zulum visited the scene but was pelted with stones by angry youth and traders despite the tight security attached to him.

Speaking with the press, the Governor expressed how disheartening he felt as regards the fire incident. He then announced an emergency relief fund of one billion naira to support the victim pending assessment of the incident.

Security operatives had been mobilized to secure the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
