Anambra getting hotter as police stations turn targets.

Following a fire exchange that occurred between five gunmen and police officers on Sunday morning, February 19 at a police station in Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local government area, Anambra station.

The resident in the area expressed their fear, while it was said the fire exchange happen around 3.45 am, stating further the unknown gunmen involved in the attack were dressed in black.

An Eye witness from the vicinity said on the approach of an armed gang of five to the station, They started firing which led the security operative on duty to swiftly swang into action, and retaliate by firing back.

However, a police officer sustained a gunshot wound,  which eventually led to his demise. On the same vein, a popular barber known as ‘small’ and a tricycle operator was killed on the spot. It was also made known that while having morning mass service, the Anglican church worshipper whose location is very close to the station ran for their lives.

According to the Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident disheartening. He as well debunks the passing away of a police operative attached to the station.

He said, “Five armed men and one police operative attached to the station were killed during the operation.”

DSP Ikenga proceeded to give data of things destroyed and ammunition recovered from the gang.

He said , police patrol vehicle was set ablaze and as well a facility from one of the departments was destroyed by the gunmen.

Before their module operandi, the notorious gang of five were seen to be equipped and armed with guns, IEDs and petrol bumbs.

Fast forward to things recovered are AK47 riffles, charms and one Toyota Sienna vehicle with REG NO Abuja ABC 848 EQ.

The situation is under control and the incident is still being assessed. Meanwhile, joint operations are still ongoing and further development shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga added..

The attack happened not long after simultaneous attacks of UKPO and OGIDI which claimed the lives of three policemen and a soldier injured .
